The Church at Sardis – Part 2
Today on Bold Steps, we’re getting some powerful insight on how to deepen our relationship with Christ, and avoid empty religion. We’re picking up where we ended last time in our lesson from Revelation chapter 3, taking a closer look at the Church at Sardis, one of the 7 churches God confronted through the prophet John. We’re finding that Sardis looked good on the outside … but once you pop the hood to look beneath the surface, things were spiritually dead. And so the Lord gave John 5 commands to share with the Church at Sardis to confront the deadness and make a recovery. Pastor Mark Jobe continues to outline these relevant commands for us today.

The Bible warns us that having religion isn’t the same as having relationship with God. We’re unpacking that today on Bold Steps. If you want to start a lively debate, just start talking about the end times. There’s been so much discussion and disagreement about this topic through the years … but today, we open the book of Revelation, the authority on the end times. This book has plenty of prophecy and mystery, but God also has a lot to say to us right now. John on the island of Patmos, writes to these 7 churches in Asia- which, really represent the types and conditions of churches in all generations…etc. “The point is... we NEED to be ready”.

Mark Jobe serves as president of Moody Bible Institute and host of Moody Radio's Bold Steps. He is the author of Unstuck: Out of Your Cave into Your Call (Moody Publishers). He is also the founding pastor of New Life Community Church, a Chicago-based ministry with 27 locations throughout Chicago. Mark earned a diploma from Moody in 1984, a master’s degree from Moody Theological Seminary, and a doctorate in transformational leadership from Bakke Graduate University. He and his wife, Dee, have three adult children.
